Kenya Ruth Chepngetich break World Record for Marathon

Ruth Chepngetich don break World Record as she win Chicago Marathon on Sunday, 13 October.

Di Kenyan athlete clock di time in two hours, nine minutes and 57 seconds to set di new world record.

She pass di previous record holder, Ethiopian Tigst Assefa by nearly two minutes.

30-year-old Chepngetich go be di first woman to run marathon under two hours and 10 minutes.

Assefa bin set di previous record wit victory for di 2023 Berlin Marathon in two hours, 11 minutes and 53 seconds.

“I feel so great, I dey proud of myself. Dis na my dream wey don come true,” Chepngetich, di 2019 world marathon champion tok.

“I don fight many times as I dey tink about di world record and I don fulfil am.”

Dis go be Chepengetich third victory for Chicago. She bin win Chicago Marathon for 2021 and 2022, and finish as runner-up last year.

She bin miss out on breaking compatriot Brigid Kosgei world record by 14 seconds for 2022.

Men winner Korir pay tribute to Kiptum

For di men race, Kenya John Korir run one personal-best time to claim victory bifor e pay tribute to world record holder Kelvin Kiptum, wey be last year winner.

Korir come out from one group of seven leaders to run clear and e finish in two hours, two minutes and 44 seconds.

Ethiopia Mohamed Esa finish for second place, while Amos Kipruto, wey finish third, na one of di four Kenyans for di top five.

Kiptum set di current world record of two hours 35 seconds for Chicago, four months before e die for di age of 24 inside car accident.
