Di chairman of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), say fuel don begin dey available for filling stations.

Tayo Adeyeji tell BBC say, di Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Ltd, don solve di delay wey bin no allow dem discharge fuel for some of di vessels wey import di product.

Late last week, long long queues bin show for some filling stations while many odas lock dia gates due to say fuel no dey available for states like Lagos, Kaduna and Rivers, and later, e begin spread to oda sates like Ogun and Nigeria.

NNPC bin announce on Saturday say di long long queues wey pipo bin dey witness na sake of delay wey dem get for dia discharge operations.

Although di Nupeng Chairman say fuel don begin dey available and say e go clear in di next two days, di kontri independent marketers no feel say dat na di case.

NNPC don assure independent marketers say dem go soon fit get supply, but di Public Relations Officer for Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Uche Ukadike say, dem no get hope of getting fuel dis week as dem no fit get access to NNPC portal wia dem dey place order for dia products.

“NNPC close dia portal sake of di challenge wey dem bin get wit wia to park di ship wey carry fuel,” im tok.

Nigeria goment don increase pump price of fuel?

According to di kontri independent marketers, right now, Nigeria no get any inland storage or reserve at all and dis lack of backup storage follow make di scarcity worse.

NNPC Ltd get 21 inland depots wey scata for different parts of di kontri, but dem no dey use any of dem take store fuel Ukadike tok. E add say some of dem don old now.

But NUPENG chairman Tayo Aboyeji say on di contrary, no be like say goment no get reserve, but di tin be say goment bin don dey manage scarcities before dis fresh one happen.

“You know say we don dey manage fuel scarcity or availability for some time now, before dis one happun. E fit be say dem don already discharge all reserve before dis delay happen,” Aboyeji tok.

Challenge of fuel distribution for Nigeria

Over di years, di kontri don dey face plenty issues wey don affect how NNPC take dey distribute fuel across di kontri.

One be say, even though Nigeria na one of di major crude oil producing kontris for di world, e no dey produce fuel again inside di kontri. E dey import all im fuel from outside.

Dis one mean say, di logistics for distribution different according to importation process. Now, na from di vessels dem dey collect fuel, den move am to tank farms.

Ukadike say, any small tin wey affect di movement of supply from di waterside enta inside town go definitely cause scarcity for di filling stations.

Di absence of inland storage na anoda major challenge for oil marketers. Cost of transporting dey very high Ukadike tok.

Before, wen Nigeria bin dey store im supply for di inland depots, e bin dey easier and safer for marketers to transport dia products go different parts of di kontri.

Dis no be di case since di depots no dey function again.

Also, di vandalization of most of di oil pipelines wey be di cheap means of moving petroleum products also add to di high cost of transportation.

Now, supply dey take between four to seven days to reach those far states like Borno and Adamawa and transport cost dey reach four million naira per trip, Ukadike add.

Dis plenty challenges dey contribute to scarcity.

“Once di product dey scarce for di inland areas, pressure go dey for di waterside areas as pipo go dey come to di areas wey dey waterside to buy,” im tok.
