Idowu Obalola na one of di survivors of di fire disaster wey happen on di Aleto- Eleme axis of di East-West Road for Rivers State.

Obalola say im, im wife with dia three children escape fi fire disaster even though im Toyota highlander vehicle burn to ashes.

E say dem bin dey return from church programme wen dem enta di traffic jam wey bin dey very serious dat night of di incident.

E explain say na I-no-go-gree na im cause di fire becos one tanker driver wit Petroleum product dey wait for di road to clear before e move wen anoda trailer go hit am and di fuel behind leak troway.

“So dem tell evribodi to off dia car but one truck driver say e no fit wait again so e start im engine wan find way comot naim di fire start.

“As I see say notin I fit do so I gatz escape with my wife and three children. Infact e take me more than two hours before I fit locate wia d bin dey dat nite becos all of us run in different directions but I thank God say even though our car burn down but all of us survive.” E tok.

Wen BBC Pidgin tori pesin reach di site of di fire incident wey start from Indorama gate down to Aleto Bridge along di road, we count 61 vehicles wey dey completely burnt down.

Dis vehicles include tankers, trucks, trailer, commercial buses and taxi, keke napep tricycles and private vehicles.

We also see di deadi body of three pesins including dat of of a pregnant woman, her pikin and anoda pesin wey dey burnt beyond recognition.

Di exact number of victims dey unclear as passers-by wey help to rescue di victims say dem rush some go hospital.

Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara also visit di scene of di incident and describe am as a very unfortunate fire incident caused by tanker wey dey convey premium motor spirit (PMS), aka petrol wey don burn motorists and commuters beyond recognition and destroy a good number of vehicles.

Governor Fubara say “from wetin we see dis morning, no be pleasant case. We record a huge number of vehicles wey destroy and lives lost.

Many motorist and pipo wey dey stay di area dey call on di Federal Goment to quick-quick fix dat axis of di East-West Road as dem dey suffer serious traffic jam and record accidents almost evriday before dis incident happen.

About two years ago, some youths for di area block dat road for almost a week as dem protest for di Federal Goment to fix di road wey dey connect to di Onne Port, Onne oil and gas free zone, Port Harcourt Refinery, Rivers South-East Senatorial District as well as Akwa Ibom, Cross River and oda States for Southern Nigeria.

Work currently dey go on for one lane of di road wey make dem close off dat lane for vehicles to use di oda lane wia di accident happen.
