Di Nigeria Immigration Service don launch formal investigation into one video wey circulate on social media, wia one woman bin tear her husband international passport for Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

Immigration identified as Favour Igiebor for dia statement wey dem release on Sunday, 11 August.

For di statement, NIS tok-tok pesin Kenneth Udo say di Comptroller General don direct say make dem invite di woman for investigation.

Di woman defend her action

Favour Igiebor don speak out on wetin make am to tear her husband passport for video.

For one six minute video, she say, “Di pipo wey don dey hala on top dis situation no know wetin dey happun for my home”.

She tok about how her husband sabi wetin e do am and claim say e bin even buy her iPhone to calm her down from wetin e do but she still carry am for mind.

She reveal for di video say wetin happun for di video dey months in di making and she bin even tell her husband say, “dis Nigerian wey we dey go so, I no sure say you go come back but e bin do am like joke”.

For anoda five minutes video wey she post about six hours later, she tok sorry give di Nigeria Immigration Service say she tear her husband passport.

But di husband too release im own video say di problem no reach wetin dem suppose dey enta social media.

Wetin be di implication of tearing international passport

According to NIS, if di woman dey guilty say she tear her husband international passport, her action go constitute a breach of section 10 (b) of di Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), and receive penalties wey come wit am under section 10 (h) of di same Act.

Udo tok say di “Nigeria Immigration Service remain steadfast for dia commitment to uphold di provisions of di Immigration Act in di interest of national security, and to preserve di dignity and integrity of di nation legal instruments”.

Section 1 (1) Passport (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act tok say to tamper wit di Nigerian passport na criminal offence.

“(c)unlawfully alter, tamper wit, or mutilate any passport or any pages thereof” or “(I) to attempt, aid, abet, counsel, procure, or conspire with any oda pesin to commit such an offence.”

Section two of dis Act say, “Any pesin found guilty of an offence under paragraphs (b) to (i) of subsection (1) of dis section gatz dey liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year.”
