Di Senate on Wednesday confam di appointment of Justice Kekere-Ekun as substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria afta dem screen am.

Dis dey come afta President Bola Tinubu write to di Senate on Tuesday, and ask dem to confam Kekere-Ekun as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, read Tinubu letter during plenary on Tuesday.

For di letter, Tinubu cite Section 231(1) of di Nigerian Constitution, wey empower am to appoint di CJN based on recommendations from di National Judicial Council, pending Senate approval.

Di President bin express confidence in her nomination and urge di Senate to act urgently.

“I hereby forward di nomination of Honourable Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, CON, for confirmation as di Chief Justice of Nigeria. I trust say dis request go receive di Senate prompt consideration and approval,” Tinubu tok for im message to di Senate.

Senate President Akpabio den refer di nomination to di Committee of di Whole for deliberation on di next legislative sitting.

You go remember say di National Judicial Council (NJC) for August recommend Justice Kekere-Ekun to President Tinubu as successor to di former CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.

Di 66-year-old lawyer bin dey serve as di Acting CJN since Justice Ariwoola retire last month.

Who be Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun

Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun na one of di top female Justices for di Supreme court of Nigeria.

Dem born her for May 7, 1958. She be 66 years old.

Justice Kekere-Ekun get her law degree from University of Lagos and dem call her to bar for 1981.
